Semarang, dtap.undip.ac.id, – The end of 2021 witnessed the persistent struggle of Inavonna, a lecturer in architecture at Trisakti University Jakarta, to convince the examiners in the virtual exam room at the final dissertation examination, Wednesday (29/12). Her dissertation research which took the theme “Communal Outdoor Space Comfort in Urban Villages (Case Study: Petamburan Village, Jakarta)” became a beautiful gift for PDIAP FT Undip.

Outer space in urban areas, especially in dense housing such as urban villages, for Ina (commonly called) can be defined as a network of connecting roads and is an element forming the settlement structure. In reality, outdoor spaces that function as circulation paths or roads in some places, form a communal space. These communal spaces are formed spontaneously and made based on agreements among residents.

This condition is a unique characteristic of the outer space of the urban village. The purpose of this research is to obtain a model of communal outdoor space comfort in urban villages with an approach to physical aspects, physiology, psychology and social behavior.

The research method used by Ina, was a mixed/combination method with a concurrent triangulation design model. The research also used a single case study design, with 30 units of analysis of communal spaces in the Petamburan urban village of Jakarta. Field data was analyzed by qualitative analysis with the Miles and Huberman model (data collection, data reduction, constructing in the relationship between categories, and conclusion/verification) to get the characteristics of communal outdoor space of urban villages, while quantitative analysis itself uses Factor Analysis with the SPSS statistics version 26 program, explained Ina.

SEM-PLS is also part of the comfort analysis to get a structural model that describes the cause-and-effect relationship between the comfort factors of the communal space of the urban village. Thus, the results of this very interesting research are expected to be a reference for planners in designing comfortable communal outdoor spaces in urban villages.

The success of Inavonna (doctoral candidate class of 2016) in completing her doctoral studies was agreed by the Examination Team consisting of Prof. Dr. Gagoek Hardiman (Promoter), Prof. Ir. Agus Budi Purnomo. MSc. Ph.D (Co-Promoter), Prof. Dr. Atik Suprapti, Prof. Dr. Erni Setyowati, Dr. Ir. Suzanna Ratih Sari, and Prof. Ir. Prasasto Satwiko, Ph.D (External Examiner) with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.00 and a Very Satisfactory predicate.
