Lulut Indrianingrum is one of the lecturers of the Architectural Engineering Study Program at Semarang State University (UNNES) with a concentration of expertise in Housing and Settlements, especially in urban village settlements. In accordance with the background of her previous research, her dissertation research is also set against the background of life in the urban village, namely Bergota Hill, Semarang City. The focus of his dissertation research is on the resilience of the urban village located in the middle of the largest cemetery area in Semarang City. It is a unique topic and locus to raise knowledge related to the resilience of urban villages. This research views the kampung as a social-ecological system that has elements and interacts with each other in an environment. This research is based on a deductive-inductive approach with a case study strategy. The deductive approach is used when the research formulates propositions and inductive is used during the field investigation process to produce research findings. The results show that there are two aspects underlying the resilience of urban villages, namely resilience and recognition from external parties. Resilience is the background of urban village resilience formed from place attachment due to dependence on sources of life, the process of adaptation to survive and inheritance of property and business. The relationship of these factors will be bound by recognition from external parties that validate the existence of the village in urban space. Resilience without recognition from external parties will weaken the existence of urban villages so that their survival is threatened. Resilience is an internal factor and recognition is an external factor of urban village resilience. Recognition from external parties is the process of recognizing the existence of villages in urban space, the fulfillment of basic rights of the community and recognition of the social identity inherent there. The theory of urban village resilience is the theory built in the dissertation research.
